/offshore pavilion

The pavilion in Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre acted as a platform for a series of events, broadcasts, interventions and performances. The programme’s title Aelion Sounds comes from its interest in the complex resonances of the site - considered both in sonic terms and in relation to the shifting winds of development and gentrification that have cast it adrift. The pavilion itself mutated and developed over the course of the project; acting as an animated archive as each work was embedded within the structure. The project centered upon the unique peculiarities of the site of the shopping centre: the atmospheric qualities – a surreal mix of vibrancy and lassitude – were as much of interest as the socio-political implications of the shopping centre, an arcade of aberration.
